Brookside Buzz for 02/04/2008

The bus took a few residents to church.  In the afternoon it was time for the residents to get caught up on the news and enjoy munching on some popcorn.  It was nice to sit by the fireplace and look out the window at the snow.

Coffee and News started the morning on Monday. JoAnn Hermanson was the big winner with two games won.  Jane Armstrong, Phyllis Gold, Bertys Smolinski, Virginia Cummins, Marie Seville, Bonnie Nejdl and Lou Lilya were all one game winners.  Maldarine McKinney and Elise Perkins were the black-out winners.  Art Time followed the noon menu and the residents had a grand time cutting at snowflakes and coloring Valentine’s pictures.  Aretha Chilton was the winner of the Phase 10; she had the lowest score.

  • The residents headed upstairs for Bible Study right after the reading of the newspaper. In the afternoon we had exercise group and then a game of “31”.  Alyce Kessler and Elise Perkins were the winners; they still had all three of their chips left.
  •
  • Wednesday morning was filled with the reading of the newspaper, and Pinochle.  Phyllis Gold and Catherine Shubert played against Elise Perkins and Alyce Kessler at table #1.  At table #2 was Lou Lilya and JoAnn Hermanson going up against Nancy Burgles and Virginia Cummins.  The afternoon held a shopping trip to Barneys and ending the day was Happy Half Hour.  The residents enjoyed kicking up their feet and letting their hair down before dinner.
  •
  • Residents headed off to the Horse Races on Thursday morning.  Pearl Nelson with her “Spotted Pony”, Jack Reffett with his “Black Jack Reffett” and Joe Gentry with his “Crowing Rooster” were all winners at the races.  After the Horse Races Amanda read the newspaper to the residents.  Then it was time for Dominoes.  It was a close game but Virginia Cummins had the lowest score in the end.

  • In the afternoon it was time for Pinochle.  Bonnie Nejdl and Maldarine McKinney were playing against Lou Lilya and JoAnn Hermanson at table #1.  At table #2 Elise Perkins and Alyce Kessler go up against Nancy Bergles and Phyllis Gold.  There was no report on who the winners were.  The snow continued to fall all day and with the storm continuing into the afternoon, Jill Woolsey sent home as many staff as she possibly could; we appreciated her concern.

Friday morning was Men’s Club and since it was so cold outside we stayed in and enjoyed donuts and listened to the newspaper.  Then we headed in to play Bingo.  JoAnn Hermanson, Lou Lilya and Lauren Kiddle all won one game.  Catherine Shubert and Elise Perkins won two games.  Bonnie Nedjl won one game and the black-out game.   The Coast bus came and took some of the residents to the Senior Meal.  In the afternoon we played another hour of Bingo.  Lillian Dalberg was the black-out winner.   Lois Brock, Lauren Kiddle and Lou Lilya each won one game.  Maldarine McKinney, JoAnn Hermanson and Elise Perkins were all winners of two games.  The last activity of the day was shopping at IGA and a stop by the pharmacy.

After the news was read and the coffee was drank it was time for Saturday Bingo.  Bertys Smolinski, Elise Perkins, Lois Brock, Pearl Bowler, Bonnie Nedjl and Alyce Kessler were all winners of one game.  Nancy Bergles was the winner of two games.  Edna Lewis was the big winner with three games and Lauren Kiddle won two games and the black-out game. In the afternoon it was time for Dominoes and Bertys Smolinski was the winner with the lowest score.  Exercise was the last activity of the day.  Residents are really enjoying exercise as it is too cold to get out and walk.

  • We want to wish our residents with February birthdays a very special birthday:  Elise Perkins and Bonnie Nejdl.
